Hoodoo Butte is a 5700' (1737 m) volcanic cinder cone located on the crest of the Cascade Range in central Oregon.

On your map, it's about 2.5 miles southwest of Santiam Pass (Highway US 20, milepost 81), and about 1.5 miles west of the Pacific Crest Trail. For the GPS-inclined, that's about 44.402 N, 121.882 W (WGS84 datum).

Weather forecasts for the Northern Oregon Cascades - Santiam Pass area and other zones are provided by the National Weather Service office in Portland, OR.

Ideas? Most of the instruments and software used to generate these weather condition pages were provided by the Santiam Pass Ski Patrol.

The precipitation sensor data is provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), which maintains many "SNOTEL" sites from New Mexico to Alaska.

Notes:
2008 10/31 - Started this winter's temperature & snow depth graph. In time to watch Winter begin ...
2008 11/08 - "Blackberry page" link fixed. Should work with all browsers.
2008 11/08 - "Blackberry page" simplified, to avoid wrap-around lines.
2008 11/09 - Snow depth sensor code now tries up to 5 times to get a "valid" response. This will not fix the wierd 31" spiking problem, but it will increase the probability of getting a reading as opposed to no reading.
2008 11/15 - Snow depth sensor power ("12" volts) wasn't what it should be. Ran it on a temporary battery pack and 30 of 30 readings were good. A clue!! Plugging-in the primary power source should have helped. And recharging the back-up battery (which had been running it for at least the last week), and replacing the supplemental "D" cell batteries ... But it still isn't running perfectly. More stuff to do, but at least we now know what to work on.
2008 11/16 - Snow depth sensor power supply gets an overhaul next weekend. Maybe snow will come and "fix" it, but it's gonna get fixed.
